With his expertise in pulmonary, sleep and critical care medicine, Dr. Villanueva specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of adults with asthma, emphysema, pulmonary diseases and sleep disorders. Prior to coming to DuPage Medical Group, Dr. Villanueva was a faculty member at the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. During his tenure at Loyola University Medical Center, Dr. Villanueva served as Medical Director for the Center for Sleep Disorders, Medical Director for the Department of Respiratory Care, and Medical Director for the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Unit. He was also an integral member of the lung transplant program at Loyola. Currently, he serves as Medical Director of the Institute of Sleep Medicine of the DuPage Medical Group.
Dr. Villanueva completed his undergraduate education at Georgetown University in 1991 and graduated in 1995 from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. In 1998, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center, where he also underwent fellowship training in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine from 1998-2001. Dr. Villanueva was named “Fellow of the Year” in 2001.
Dr. Villanueva is board certified in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and in Sleep Medicine both from the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) and American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Villanueva is affiliated with Central DuPage, Edward, and Good Samaritan Hospitals.
